Frequently asked questions

What happens to your video, how the solve gets measured, and what the app refuses to guess. About covers why it behaves this way.

Privacy & your data

Is my solve video uploaded anywhere?

No. All analysis happens in your browser. Quick recordings are discarded the moment they're analyzed, and files you load never leave your computer. Only phase times — numbers — go to the AI coach, and only when you ask for coaching.

Do I need an API key for the AI features?

No. The AI Chatbot runs through CubeBloom's server and is currently free. The timer, analysis, drills and stats use no AI at all, so they work offline.

Will my solves sync between devices?

No — everything lives in this browser's storage. Use Export backup in Settings, then Import backup on the other device. Backups include sessions, so solves land back where they were recorded.

Recording & analysis

How does the camera know my phase splits?

Your Space presses are the official time; the camera only splits it. It snaps splits to your pauses, and on orient-then-permute methods (CFOP, 2x2 Ortega) it locks the last split to the moment the top face goes fully yellow. Splits are estimates — correct any solve in Manual analysis.

Which puzzles work with the Space quick record?

All of them. Pick your puzzle and method at the top right — every method has its own phase set. Hold Space until the clock turns green and release to start. The 15-second inspection always runs in quick record.

What are sessions, and what do they change?

A named bucket of solves, the same idea as csTimer. Timer stats show only the session you're in, so an ao12 is the last twelve of this practice run. Your personal best, the phase breakdown, Insights and the coach read every session — those describe your cubing, not one sitting. Solve history shows everything, and filters to one session.

What does “this solve didn't count” mean?

The camera couldn't confidently match what it saw to your timed solve, so nothing saved automatically. Your time isn't lost — the solve is waiting in Manual analysis on the Analyze tab, ready to split by hand.

Cubes, timers & imports

Which smart cubes work over Bluetooth?

GAN i-series (i Carry, i3, GAN12 ui and similar) and MoYu AI, in Chrome or Edge — Web Bluetooth doesn't exist in Safari or Firefox. Every turn arrives timestamped, so phase times are measured rather than estimated. Smart cubes are 3x3 hardware, so the button only appears on 3x3 and One-Handed.

Can CubeBloom send my times to a Bluetooth stackmat timer?

No, and no app can. Bluetooth speedcubing timers only broadcast — data comes out, nothing goes back in. Reading times off one is possible; writing to one is not.

Can I import my csTimer times?

Yes. In csTimer, Export → 'Export to file', then load it on the Solve history tab. A plain export has total times only, so no splits. If csTimer's multi-phase timer was on, those marks import as real splits and the import screen tells you which sessions have them. Where the phase count doesn't match your method, the solve imports as total-only rather than guessing. Imports land in whichever session is active.
